    Today, we pause to remember....

Five years ago today, Hurricane Katrina roared onto the Louisiana coast and into the interior of our state. Even here in Albany, the effects of the category five storm were felt. There was rain. There was wind. There was damage to homes and trees. There was no usable water or electricity in some surrounding areas for days - even weeks.

We were lucky. The unfolding disaster was much worse to the South and to the East. In some places like Saint Bernard Parish and the Ninth Ward of New Orleans, the picking up of the pieces of properties and lives is only now resembling something like recovery.

Take a long moment today to remember the event and the victims. Give a prayer of thanks to God in Christ for the fact that we survived and that, little by little, our corner of creation is getting better.

Don't forget that the work of recovery goes on, and that our neighbors still need our sympathy, our prayers and our support.
