Question:  Where does the word "Lent" come from?

The word "Lent" comes from a Latin word "lencthen". It means the lengthening of the days. The season of Lent is during the time when the shorter days of Winter start to get longer as Spring approaches. So it points to more light, more life - appropriate for the weeks leading to Easter!
