Ask the Pastor!

Question:  How many magi were there, really?

We don't know for sure. Some traditions list as many as a dozen wise guys who went to find the King of the Jews. Tradition has narrowed it down to three. Part of this is implied by the presentation of three gifts to Jesus - gold for a king, frankincense for a priest and myrrh to anoint the one who was to die. All we know about them is that they came from the East. They were magi, part of a select group of ruler/scholars in the Orient. They searched the stars for signs of changes in the universe. And they searched until they found Jesus. Then they went home - and disappeared into history.
